This is a great youtube channel about English.
The word "dollar" comes from the word "Thaler" which comes from Jáchymov in the Czech Republic. Which was known as Joachimsthal. Silver was mined there and a coin from there was called a Joachimsthaler, and from there a thaler. Which went off around Europe and ended up being called a "dollar".
The "S" in $ comes from the word "Spanish" and the "l" in $ comes from the letter "p" for "Peso", so it was "Spanish Peso" put together to form the sign.
So, Trump changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico because it wasn't "Mericun" enough. Will he try and change the name of the dollar and the $ sign if he finds out?
