The photo you are showing is of a fanatical hard core national militia that is privately funded and volunteers to go on the front lines of the harshest battles. They suffer the highest casualties, but volunteers kept pouring in during the worst of the fighting. They held the line while the Ukrainian Army reorganized and equipped before taking on the Russian invaders. All those guys in the photo are probably dead or crippled.

The Russian speakers of east Ukraine have every right to fear being massacred by the Ukrainian fascists if they let down their guard. Hurt our side for a little bit until we air dropped two C-17 loads about 50 tons of replacement ammo and whatever. They will need lots of anti tank rockets since they used so many up leaving dozens of destroyed Russian armor on the battlefield and having the rebels capture some as well. Hope those aren't Russians in those tanks, but it must be a bitch being an Iranian or Syrian being told to go to Russian tank school.

The aid is not going to al Qaeda and never has. It is going to groups that are opposed to both Assad, ISIS and al Qaeda and any other groups affiliated with them.
