Wonder why there ever
was a "Lee Jackson Day".
Wiki sez:
Get that? For seventeen years Virginia lumped Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Martin Luther King II into the same day.
Fun fact -- Virginia is also the last of the 57 states that thinks it can make car radar detectors "illegal". Despite the Federal Communications Act of 1934.
It's slow as molasses up there.
When you've had two major wars fought and ended, been attacked by the British, twice, the Union Army, the Canadians, Germans, Russians, Al Qaeda, and neo nazis, it gives you an attitude.
Every police and government agency in the country is here.
We are the police state. Which is amazing considering the fact you can obtain any kind of firearm here easier than you can get concert tickets.
It's the home of seven Presidents, including the first one. It's the home of Jefferson. History, and culture are very important to native Virginians. It's the home of the Capital of the Confederacy, but oddly enough, Virginians understand the down side of that better than anyone outside of the state. A lot of families, including mine, had members that fought for both sides of that damn war. We don't celebrate it. Young guys that glorify it, don't really understand what they are glorifying. And the older ones that do we call Cletis, and yes they are dumb as a stump.
You go to any small town here, and blacks and whites get along better than in most parts of the country. So it strikes a strange chord to us when outsiders try to label us as bigots. They generally come in from outside of the state, and we don't want them here.
But yes, we still have our pockets of assholes and slow to keep up types, like everywhere else. And for some reason the legislature don't like radar detectors. Go figure.
