I swear though, many of their players had full beards and some worked for a pulpwood timber company. The Green Co. HS football program was investigated a couple of times for "ringers".

More than a few players parents get free houses and cars for moving, plus money. When I was in high school here the cut off age was 21 to play high school sports, but who couldn't forge a birth certificate in those days?

It was rare in 5A Sports in Texas for an athlete to compete over the age of 19 at the start of a school year and you could count the 22 year olds in HS Sports on one hand in any given year ( prior to Ma Richards era and the peak power of Progressive Teachers Unions

You can believe what you want. It's true it's not the same as when I was in school, which isn't news, and it's certainly not the same as when my Father was in school. The bookies and gamblers have always been a force in sports, including high school sports, and they still are. The richer schools have the better teams, highest aid coaches, and import players, always have and always will.

I played 5A football in Greenville Tx in 78-79 and at end ( 19 ) I was oldest guy on Defense unless your talking late 60s ( My Brothers era in Texas HS football for Honey Grove HS and he went on to play with scholarship at Texas Tech I knew most of the players on his team and oldest player was also 19 .
