Let's be clear.. if this penalizes speech I'm against it. If it adds an additional penalty for actual assault because the victim is a practicing muslim or muslim sympathizer (that seems to be the case) it's unecessary since there is already a sufficient penalty for such a crime. Reading the actual bill, it appears to be a case of adding additional penalties above what is normally applied in actual cases of assault.US citizen’s rights to free speech will also be ‘ assault and battery” for opinions negatively affecting moslems.
Assault and battery; definition of "Islamophobia"; penalty. Defines "Islamophobia" as it relates to the crime of assault and battery as malicious prejudice or hatred directed toward Islam or Muslims. This definition applies regardless of whether the victim is actually a practitioner of Islam, provided that the perpetrator targeted such victim based on a perceived adherence to such faith. The bill also clarifies that religious conviction includes Islam. The bill directs the Department of State Police, in consultation with the Office of the Attorney General and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, to include the bill's definition of "Islamophobia" in its hate crime reporting central repository.

GOP pushes anti-free speech bills to fight antisemitism
Republicans are pushing anti-free speech legislation as they try to restrict antisemitism in their states. Free speech, particularly at college campuses, has been a primarily conservative issue in the US for well over a decade. But in response to anti-Israel activism from Left-wing student...unherd.com
I know, that's "different". That's actually addressing speech.
Too bad Minnesota doesn't have such a law in relation to assaulting ICE officers.I agree with you there. Assault and battery is already a crime. If you feel the punishment isn't strong enough, make it stronger. Period.
It's all hate.

Minnesota does nothing to 'protesters' who assault ICE. And, no, pknopp that's not 'fake news' we saw it when Pretti wasn't arrested for assaulting a BP vehicle. If the Minnesota cops were there, they could have arrested him and he'd be alive today.Assault is illegal in Minnesota.
