The reason we have high rates of gun murder in the cities that the democrat party controls? Democrat party criminal justice policies........

A new example.......the democrat party of Virginia just lowered the penalty for assaulting a police officer .....which is a 1 year sentence...if that.............the democrat party thrives on violence, hate and chaos....

Virginia Democrats in the state’s senate banded together to pass a controversial bill allowing the assault of a law enforcement officer to be treated as a misdemeanor — that is, as a crime punishable by less than one year in jail.

The bill, which passed the Virginia Senate Thursday by a margin of 21-15, “would allow an assault against a law enforcement officer to a misdemeanor if the person attacked is not hurt,” according to WSLS Virginia.

Before now, any assault of a police officer in the state of Virginia carried with it a minimum six month jail sentence.

“This same penalty applies to anyone who assaults a person they know, or have reason to know, is a judge, magistrate, prison guard, firefighter or some other criminal justice administrator or first responder,” the Fort Hunt Herald added.

A summary of the bill notes that the measure:

Eliminates the mandatory minimum term of confinement for an assault and battery committed against a judge; magistrate; law-enforcement officer; correctional officer; person directly involved in the care, treatment, or supervision of inmates; firefighter; or volunteer firefighter or any emergency medical services personnel and
provides that such crime can no longer be committed as a simple assault and must result in a bodily injury.

Virginia Democrats, in their proposal explained that the bill would “defelonize assault on law enforcement officer (return to misdemeanor offense),” and would eliminate the mandatory minimum sentence imposed in a change to the law made in 1997.

“Democrats said the legislation does not minimize the crime of assaulting a police officer, but instead makes a distinction between serious assaults and minor assaults,” according to the Associated Press. “The bill keeps the charge as a felony, but gives a judge or jury discretion to reduce it to a misdemeanor if there is no bodily injury or if someone’s culpability is slight because of diminished capacity or a developmental disorder.”

Wow. Who the hell would want to be a cop in Virginia? Or any of the other blue states who are trying to defund or abolish the PD? In some places they are trying to reduce the number of non-lethal means that a cop can use. This is madness, and a total disregard for the overwhelming number of good cops out there. And there's going to be a price to pay, cops are going to retire early or quit for another job. Maybe in private security, which could be a growing career field.

Assaults on polices officer can now be recorded for the most part by video and should be considered a felony.
As shown in the Kenosha incident and the resisting arrest of George Floyd that led to his death.
The Progressive Marxist Socialist/DSA Democrat propaganda is being exposed and States and municipalities that attempt decriminalize the act of resisting arrest show that they condone the acts of violence in their cities.
Floyd can be seen ingesting the Fentanyl that killed him and in the Kenosha case Floyd can be seen reaching for a weapon. If in the case of Blake had that been a gun would the shooting have been anymore justifiable?

It figures. What f*cking morons.

This thread contains two separate issues. As to the rates of gun murders in cities with Democratic officials, which apparently are different from cities with Republican officials, it has been the republicans who vigorously oppose any limits on a person's right to carry a gun. Try to impose reasonable limitations on guns and it's the republicans who will scream "bloody murder."

As to the second issue concerning the Virginia law on assaults on public officers. The law maintains such an assault as a felony. The only thing that it does is give a judge or jury the discretion to reduce the charge to a misdemeanor. This reduction is far from automatic. There is no reason for hysteria. Cool your jets.

It isn't the Right to carry and law abiding gun owners who are shooting people.......it is the criminals that the democrat party officials keep releasing from jail and prison doing the shooting, and they can't buy, own or carry guns legally...

So you don't understand the issue....

We want to limit criminals being released from jail and prison by the democrat party....that is how you limit actual gun crime....not by going after normal people who own guns for self defense, sport, hunting and collecting.

That you confuse actual gun criminals with normal people who do not use their legal guns for crime is why you can't solve the gun crime problem.....you don't understand who the actual criminals are...

A cop killed a black guy in his own house. She was convicted of murder. She got 10 years.

I bet you think that was too much, right?

Its hilarious that you're complaining about sentencing.

Again with this?

Please.....tell us what was her motive for being convicted of "Murder," as opposed to manslaughter.

Tell us how her account, of accidentally walking into the wrong apartment...seeing a strange man in what she thought was her apartment and her shooting him in what she thought was self defense equals premeditated murder.....

Please...tell us...

Guyger’s team argued in a brief filed Tuesday that although she did knowingly shoot with the intention of killing Jean, her belief that he was an intruder justified her use of deadly force.

“The evidence was legally insufficient to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Guyger committed murder because (1) through mistake, Guyger formed a reasonable belief about a matter of fact — that she entered her apartment and there was an intruder inside — and (2) her mistaken belief negated the culpability of murder because although she intentionally and knowingly caused Jean’s death, she had the right to act in deadly force in self defense since her belief that deadly force was immediately necessary was reasonable under the circumstances,” court documents read.

Guyger’s defense team has previously argued that the confusing layout of the upper floors at the apartment complex contributed to the situation that led to Jean’s death. Guyger lived on the the fourth floor, and Jean lived directly below her.

In the appeal, Guyger’s defense team mentions that residents of her complex often walk into or enter the wrong apartment or park on the wrong floor. Several residents testified about this at her trial.

Of 71 tenants interviewed, 44% said they had walked into the wrong apartment on the wrong floor before, court documents state. Twenty-three percent of tenants said they had accidentally gone to the wrong door and entered their key into the lock, according to court documents.
