During an online interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" in October, a small pin with the numbers "8645" could be seen on a table behind Whitmer. Trump's campaign claimed the numbers were a subtle way in which Whitmer encouraged the assassination of the president.

"Whitmer is encouraging assassination attempts against President Trump," Trump's campaign claimed, explaining that "86 can be shorthand for killing someone." The last two numbers refer to Trump, who is the 45th president of the United States.
