Things can take on a life of their own. Look at Christmas It doesn't really go back too far maybe 150 years.... The modern holiday that is. Scholars can argue that December 25th was actually the Roman feast of the saturnalia and that Constantine when he unified his empire piled all the pagan holidays on top of the supposedly Christian holiday. But North America has its own traditions. It no longer matters what the origin is. What matters is what it is now... which is something very pleasant and generally happy.

To People have celebrated at all of their lives with their children and their parents before them It is full of precious memories.

It doesn't matter who wrote the song, doesn't matter what it was supposed to mean originally. The only thing that matters is what it has become.

It is easily one of the most recognizable tunes on the planet, It's full of energy and positivity and has become something more than it ever was before. At this point it's the Trump campaign theme song and man it has tremendous power! I don't see how anyone can argue with it.
