I would think the LBGQTRIW - whatever - would be pleased that a song by gay people is getting so much play, and associated with victory and triumph!Honestly I never really paid too much attention to it. I can remember seeing pictures of the stage show more than once.... And drawing some incomplete conclusions from it.
I think the song has grown in life of its own over the decades. It's arguably one of the most easily recognizable tunes on the planet.
But thanks for the info.....
I guess that explains the conundrum.
So then shouldn't the LGBTQ....ad infinitum.... community be all hyped all over this? Or do they see it as cultural appropriation?
Jo
Why would I? I'm not a *** ffs! I lived long enough to know and I also think that is one of the catchiest tunes ever.Is that where you went to find men?

Lol..... Still one cannot help but be taken up in the positive energy of the entire performance. Lol.... I had forgotten because it's been 40 years since I've seen the video. I guess I remember now though..
The cowboy and the biker are completely gay! They remind me of every gay man I ever knew.
.
Dude, really?Yeah I know I've heard it called that I'm more than one occasion but I never could figure out why.
Dude, really?
The only member of the group, from the producer on down, who wasn't gay was the lead singer. All the rest were gay.
The name of the group, "village people" refers to Greenwich village in Manhattan, a well know gay area at the time.
The costumes were meant to symbolize American masculinity and macho gay-fantasy personas.
All of this is well known.
You know it's funny, but I had to explain it to a Czech *** and friend. He didn't know and he was in his 40s I think.I'll bet that thing is recognized all over the world in a hundred different languages.... Even if it's not translated
No, he was a switch hitter.Dude, really?

Did the band know that one?You want to hear something funny? My father, may he RIP, was a refined, reserved gentleman whose musical interests were primarily classical - with an occasional evening at the opera thrown in.
As we were preparing for his 85th birthday party - an elegant affair at a posh hotel - I asked him if there were any particular songs he’d like the band to play. And he said…..
YMCA.
I almost fell off my chair.
