NYC Official: Ban Japanese 'Rape' Video Game

Anti-violence advocates in New York City are taking a stand against a video game in which players stalk and rape a mother and her two daughters.

Amazon and eBay have already banned the sale of the game, called RapeLay. But City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said Monday that the game is available from other online sellers.

My point was that there are more video games with such horrible acts ... it just seems they chose this one because it's Japanese for some reason. Hell, Russian video games are even more frightening, don't even bother with those in the ME unless you have a strong stomach.

Seriously ... if they want to nitpick what video games portray they have a TON to choose from, why this one in particular?

Based on this statement, i dont think you understand the video game market. Do you have any idea how many of our video games are created out of Japan? The US is number 1 in video game production, and Japan is easily number 2. I would venture to say that Japan creates more video games than every other country in the world combined, excluding the US.

No, they are not picking on this game in particular because its from Japan, but rather because its a game about raping a mother and her 2 daughters.

...and to the guy who brought up Grand Theft Auto, you dont think its recieved plenty of backlash because of ITS violence? You probably wouldnt even know the game exists, if it werent for the bad reputation it has.

I'm really not into video games, so I'm not familiar with others with a less than savory theme. I have heard of Grand Theft Auto, but didn't know that killing prostitutes was a part of it. I saw this one on CNN, and wondered just what the world was coming to. The fact that there are others just as bad really makes me wonder just what the world is coming to. Do teens play these games? If so, where are their parents?

No wonder the country is going down the tubes.

I find the idea of banning this game sickening.

But anyway here are some relevant facts
1. The game was made in Japan
2. It's a porno game and thus covered by our porn laws
3. The original developers had no intentions of releasing it outside of Japan (I think, don't quote me on that)
4. The game is only available officially in Japanese, to see it in English you have to download a fan-translated version.
5. It's really only widely available in Japan, all the major game sellers won't stock it and if you want it you can either find an independent seller or import it.
6. Japan has some odd porn fetishes including tentacle (rape) porn, bukkake, and a really gross one that tries to mix in gory photos with eroticism. There's lots of rape and porn games over there

Oh and the game wouldn't have got 1/10th as infamous if some shmucks didn't grandstand on the game. Controversy is free press people and none of us would've ever heard of rapelay if it weren't for these fools whining about it.

So congratulations this obscure game has turned into something semi-mainstream.

Well, technically you done have to kill the prostitute.

You see, when you health points are running low, you cruise down the road and you pick up a prostitute and drive to a secluded location. Once there, your car starts to rock from side to side and your health level starts to go up (this is the only time when having sex with a prostitute makes you more healthy).

Of course, at the same time, while she is workin' you, your money count goes down. When she is done, she walks away. If you want to get all the money back, you can back the car over her, kill her, and take the money. But if you miss and just hit her a little, she will start running to her pimp and he will track you down and kill you.

No wonder the country is going down the tubes.

Haven't had the pimp part happen to me yet ... but anyway this is an obscure JAPANESE game, there's not even an English version of it (unless you find a fan-translated one on the web). You won't find this game sold in any major retailer, heck I'd be surprised if many porn shop had this game.

I also love GTA, had an interest in it because of it's notoriety and I still play it because it's entertaining (come for the violence, stay for everything else (including more violence)).

I don't watch a lot of MTV but from what I see it just tries to be the playboy channel only it has to obey the FCC (I'll bet you anything that if the FCC was gone tomorrow MTV would start showing softcore porn or at least nudity within a few weeks).

But still if someone were to do horrible things in a video game I don't think that would reflect on them too much. It's great stress release sometimes and no one cares about the sacredness of pixels so it's easier to let yourself become a bit more violent (in the game).
That and there's always the appeal of doing illegal immoral things like murder and theft without fear of real world consequences or guilt.

But glorifying the exploitation of common people to make the master class rich is still A-OKAY.
