Actually, there probably were trans at D-Day. They just weren't open about it.
Ed Wood (Director of Plan 9 From Outer Space and a bunch of other really bad movies) wore women's underwear under his uniform, and his biggest fear was he'd be wounded in combat and the corpsman would see them.
