It's getting to be a long day and I'm pretty tired. As a result, I find myself code switching without at first realizing it. I'll find myself helping my Spanish speaking students translate a small amount of text, such as instructions to an exercise or a key word in a reading, and I'll begin speaking Mandarin, Japanese, or Korean without at first realizing it. In such instances, my students usually end up just staring at me in stunned silence until I catch myself. Then I'll go home and catch myself speaking Spanish to my wife. That's ok because she speaks it as well, but it occurs quite by accident. My oldest son is taking Spanish in school, so he's starting to pick up on it too.
I gotta get more sleep.
