I grew up with a girl whose father was born in Germany and was a teen during WWII. Thirty years later, living in America, he still wouldn’t allow Jews in his house.Never any German said so.
In fact, I remember one time she and I went to a play at school that ended around 11 pm. I had walked up to the school in the early evening - a mile away - but my friend told me her father was coming to pick her up and would give me a drive back.
Well, when he arrived and my friend said that “Lisa needs a ride home”, OMG. He hemmed and hawed and was obviously not sure what to do. Finally, he acquiesced and said “get in” and drove me home. Later, I realized he was torn between allowing an innocent young girl to walk home alone in the middle of the night and allowing a Jew in his car!
