Vatican warns parents that Halloween is 'anti-Christian' -

The Vatican is warning parents not to let their kids dress up as ghosts and goblins this weekend for Halloween, calling it a pagan celebration of "terror, fear and death," Britain's Daily Telegraph reports in a dispatch from Rome.

The newspaper's Rome correspondent, Nick Squires, notes that the Roman Catholic Church has become alarmed in recent years as the traditional U.S. celebration spreads to other countries, particularly Britain and Italy.

The Vatican issued its warning through its official newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, in an article headlined "Halloween's Dangerous Messages."

It quotes a liturgical expert, Joan Maria Canals as saying, "Halloween has an undercurrent of occultism and is absolutely anti-Christian."

I don't see how its "anti-Christian". Its not celebrating anything, its just a night to dress the kids up in constumes and to go trick-or-treating.

The Vatican is not telling parents to not let your children go trick-o-treating but rather to those Catholic's a reminder that dressing up as undead type costumes are not in line with the Catholic teaching.

It is the duty of the Church to guide the followers of the faith. If you don't like it then don't listen for the message wasn't meant for you anyway.

Exactly. Why the hell this is of any interest to anyone who is not Catholic is beyond me.... It is, however, fairly typical of today's society that everyone thinks they are entitled to whine about shit that does not concern them.

If you're Catholic, great. if you're not, mind your own fucking business.

'Halloween has an undercurrent of occultism and is absolutely anti-Christian'

Um...that means trick or treating is a no no.

Parents should "be aware of this and try to direct the meaning of the feast towards wholesomeness and beauty rather than terror, fear and death," says Father Canals, a member of a Spanish commission on church rites, the Telegraph reports.
This quote alone when one applies common sense that the message is they can trick-o-treating. T

Trick or treating is basically extortion.

:eusa_angel:

That is your opinion.

LOL. Some people opine on everything - whether it is within their sphere of understanding or not.

It's a slow news day in the UK. The Vatican issues this reminder every year - mostly it only gets covered by the Catholic press. Still, if it manages to annoy a liberal or two, that's entertaining.

Nope.

But it is the Pope's opinion that Halloween is anti-Christian.
I guess with you it depends on what the word "IS" means. For goodness sakes you take two words and therefore that is it. No matter the rest of the words in context to the message. Please..I grow tired of your petty BS. You obviously take great pleasure on mocking anything religious so have at it.

Sensitive bunch.

I'd like someone to explain how you celebrate something the Pope considers ant-Christian and still remain a good Christian.

Now if he had said dressing up like demons and ghouls was evil, or that just trick or treating was evil it would make sense that the holiday could be celebrated in a more wholesome manner.

But he didn't. He said Halloween is anti-Christian.

The pope is an ass. He dresses up and looks like a ghoul. Maybe he doesn't want any competition in this regard.
