For years, there's been essentially a no man's land between US/Coalition vs. Russia/Assad Regime Axis in the region. In that no man's land, ISIS was surviving beneath the radar.

Any operations by us to go after ISIS in that zone were met by challenges from Russia particularly their air force.

With the Axis now gone, Russians can no longer play fuck-fuck games with us and/or protect their ISIS buddies.
