US to work with new Palestinian Unity (Hamas + Fatah) Government?

The argument offered by department spokeswoman Jen Psaki was that, it was "an interim technocratic government that does not include ministers affiliated with Hamas." But any real unity government that's being backed by Hamas will have to be heavily influenced by the terrorist group, which controls Gaza, no matter the figureheads that are put in place.

More disturbingly, the Washington Post has reported that, the agreement, "appears to skirt, barely, U.S. prohibitions on aid to a Palestinian government that has 'undue' Hamas presence or influence. The Obama administration had worked behind the scenes to suggest terms for the new coalition government that would not trigger the U.S. ban, reasoning that the money helps preserve American leverage."

So in other words, according to this report, the Obama administration actively worked with the Palestinians to help them mask the fact that they were bringing a terrorist group into the government so that they could get around U.S. law aimed at preventing the flow of money to terrorists

US to work with Palestinians

Washington - The United States said on Monday it intends to work with the new Palestinian unity government and will continue to disburse aid to the Palestinian Authority but will monitor its policies.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas swore in a unity government on Monday in a reconciliation deal with Hamas Islamists, who advocate Israel's destruction.

“Based on what we know now we intend to work with this government but will be watching closely to ensure that it upholds principles that President Abbas reiterated today,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told a briefing. “But we will continue to evaluate the composition and policies of the new government and calibrate our approach accordingly.”

I will be curious to see just how far this goes, under the auspices of the Obama Administration...

Why not work with the new government. Hell, we negotiate with the Taliban to release a "hero" so we might as well go to bed with Hamas. Heil, Barack. PBUH

Obama dealt with Abbas and the PA. Until this last week, Hamas was no a member of the PLO that governs the PA till statehood and a proper government is establish. It was supposedly to resign with the creation of the PA, but with hamas opposition in control of gaza, the PLO still exists.

Hamas kept refusing to allow elections after they lost the popular vote by managed to win a majority of seat by default. Then they attacked fatah members in gaza and threw most out or killed them.

If you listen to the casual talk at the cafe, bread shop, vegetable market, they speak loud and have widely different view point which grows louder and more animate very quickly. Politics more than other subjects is widely and loudly on the majority of minds.

The only major vote less than 90% was for Arafat. He ran against a 73 yr old, grandmother of 13, charity worker. She passed away three yr after the election. The little know khalil actually managed to get 11.5% of the vote, or it was just a vote against arafat. All other candidates were force out or had some health excuses about withdrawing their name.

Free and fair elections, I won't be holding my breath on that.

This would have had to have been summer of 1972. I was only there for about six weeks. The next time I went was 74. Wasn't there in 73.

Yeah, DON'T hold your breath on that. it'll take awhile, unless some of the new folks who may win this time around make a big difference. And that is always possible. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

A few days after Munich the IDF targeted areas known where BSO operated. I doubt you could have seen anything 25 miles away, nor even half that distance when the land is anything but flat

April there was targeting of a palestinian in the camps who were leading commando raids into Israel. That also was too far south to see.

There was a car bomb in early july and a book bomb at the end of that month, both in Beirut. No planes.

This should spark some question by those who have the mental capacity to do so.

Fatah lost the nationwide elections, so what was its military (Dayton's Forces) doing in Gaza?

Which Fatah Members were killed or expelled? Many members of Fatah were given amnesty by Hamas the same day, including four members of the parliament who maintained their seats.

Fatah lost the nationwide elections, so howizzit that it is the government in the West Bank?

What does this have to do with my post?

No, I am a very accomplished debunker of partisan hacks.
Then start with yourself. Egypt has declared Hamas and Muslim brotherhood a terrorist organization. That's how "trustworthy" Hamas is.

To avoid being perceived as gullible, you need to maintain an index of suspicion about Israel's cover stories. You just lost a bit of credibility.
I am not overly concerned by your perception of my credibility, New Meat.

If you have substantive information pertaining to the casus belli being bogus (to wit, that the Israelis made-up the story about the tunnel), by all means, present it, at your convenience.

I was 17 in 1972. Went to Beirut. Knew even then that Israel was strafing, dropping napalm, clusterbombs, etc. First day I was there, up on the 10th floor of a hotel, we looked out over Beirut and saw .... Israeli planes to the south, flying low, doing damage, killing civilians. Next day in the world press they straight-facedly denied that they had ever vilolated Lebanon's airspace the day before. Malicious propaganda against them, obvious anti-Semitism, etc. The press cooperated and the rest of the world bought it. I had seen the magen david on the wings, and since then I NEVER believe any darned thing I read in the U.S. press on any topic remotely related to the Israel/Palestine issue. I try to use a combination of other sources, and there are plenty of them. To me, anything Israel says is a lie until proven otherwise, because for over 50 years to my very direct and personal knowledge that has been their basic modus operandi. Could provide literally hundreds of examples, nay, THOUSANDS. Meanwhile, let's go see what's on You Tube, shall we?
