US Charge d'Affaires Ambassador Stanford has confirmed his country's support for ongoing efforts to implement the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.

He said the DDPD is a suitable roadmap to find a peaceful solution for the conflict in Darfur. Speaking at press conference at the US Embassy premises in Khartoum, Stanford said his country supports efforts to address Darfur issue, citing the participation of himself and the USAID Director at the Donor conference convened recently in Doha.

He said his country does not obstruct efforts to bring about peace in Darfur, stating that they encourage Darfur holdout groups to come on board. He added that the US is not for solution through the gun.

USAID Director said the US supports the peaceful process in Darfur through UNAMID with up to $600 million a year to fund health, water and food projects in coordination with WFP. We run two clinics in Zamzam and Kutum, he said.

He said the US also supports UNAMID with $400 million a year, $120 million in aid besides contributions to early recovery and basic services.
