Public universities in Malawi have ordered all students sponsored by USAID to drop out or seek other sources of funding if they want to remain in school. This follows the 90-day freeze on U.S. foreign assistance recently announced by President Donald Trump.

USAID has provided financial support to thousands of students in several Malawi universities, including the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mzuzu University, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, and the Malawi University of Science and Technology or MUST. V
However, Patience Yamikani Chakwana, a beneficiary of USAID at MUST, told VOA that she is already feeling the impact.

Chakwana said USAID was paying for her tuition and accommodation, as well as giving her money for groceries and the internet connection for her mobile phone.

I don't even give a crap about American college students, dumb enough to take college loans to take Advanced Sandbox and Fingerpaints, or Gender Studies, then whining because they have to pay back the money, they decided to sign contracts to borrow.

I watched this a long time ago and it’s accurate and true. The only way for these countries to come out of poverty and they’re horrible leaders is for them to get educated and hopefully a generation or two take over and grow their countries into better places. Slowing reproduction in poverty ridden countries would also help, sorry that is the reality.

I am an Independent, who got through college without student loans, and father of twins that were employed and paid off what little student loans they had within 3 months of graduation. I never supported Joe's student loan payoff plans, as anybody over 18 should be responsible for loans and debts freely taken out. I do not support them here, and darned sure don's support my tax dollars paying for them in Malawi. I do wish those students luck, though, with their studies, at somebody else's support, other than the American Taxpayer.
