US Air Force to deny retirement pay to transgender service members being separated from the service

Retirement is only for those with 20 years or more service.

If you can’t fulfill your obligations then you are cut from the military at any time. You have no entitlement to stay in until 20 years if you can’t meet the requirements.
Worse, the AF will pay them lump sums to quit.

Prove it.

If you chose a sex on your enlistment form - which you would be required to do - and you chose to change it later … then you either lied on your enlistment form or you didn’t disclose the mental health issues related to your gender dysphoria

Just happened.

Adult onset homosexuality?

Haven’t you been assuring us for years that it’s something you’re “born with”?

I thought you all thought it was a choice?

People with diagnosed medical issues arent just tossed.

Actually, you'd be amazed what people are tossed for.

The services issue 30,000 Medical discharges every year.

So the question is, is Gender Dysmorphia- a recognized mental illness in the DSM-V - a suitable reason to discharge someone medically?

Um. Yeah. It most certainly is. Or at least that's the position of the current administration.

But it only applies to transgender service members?

Actually, if it happens to any member for any reason. There are a number of reasons why people are forced out. For instance, after the Gulf War, the military did a major force reduction and people who kind of got by for years were barred from re-enlisting or forced out early.

Very Trumpian. Just renege on a contract.

This is nothing new for veterans. Republicans have been cutting veterans’ benefits at every turn for years.

Trump is firing VA doctors, nurses and hospital staff. These medical care staffers are specialists the treatment of battlefield wounds, PTSD, limb loss and rehabilitation, or chemical exposures.

He’s trying to direct vets to private practice medical care where there are no specialized staff or services for vets exist. The costs to the VA a rising as a result, as private practice treatment is much more expensive and much less effective.
