A quiet but intense struggle over money and influence is roiling the Republican Party just as the 2014 election season is getting underway.

At least a dozen “super PACs” are setting up to back individual Republican candidates for the United States Senate, challenging the strategic and financial dominance that Karl Rove and the group he co-founded, American Crossroads, have enjoyed ever since the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision in 2010 cleared the way for unlimited independent spending.

In wooing donors, the new groups — in states like Texas, Iowa, West Virginia and Louisiana — are exploiting Crossroads’ poor showing in 2012, when $300 million spent by the super PAC and a sister nonprofit group yielded few victories. Some are suggesting that Crossroads’ deep ties to the Republican establishment and recent clashes with conservative activists are a potential liability for Republican incumbents facing Tea Party challengers.

Trouble in GOP Land? :eek::eek:

This election year going to be a down to the wire barn-burner. Unlike the foregone conclusion of 2012, I'll be damned if I can predict with any certainty how it will turn out but I do know it is going to be as nasty and divisive as anything we have ever seen, and that's just within the GOP (tee-hee).

The Tea Party movement caught the GOP Establishment off guard in 2010.

But in the 2012 election, the Tea Party tanked. Bozos like Allen West were kicked out after only one term, and he's reduced to making an ass of himself in the more gullible right wing media outlets.

You can stick a fork in the Tea Party until the next economic crisis. The GOP Establishment is back on top and will stay on top.

Interesting analogy, especially considering the apparent popularity of Teddy Cruz. I will agree that the Tea Party's strength is derived from disaster. The worse the economy looks, the more influence the TP has. They survive on bad news.

The economy has made some strides in recent months and this does not bode well for the TP. Karl has his hands full trying to keep the TP loons from ruining election day 2014.

THIS IS GETTING VERY GOOD! :clap2: I wouldn't be surprised to see blood in the GOP streets....

Rafael can't get it up ever since the government shutdown cost the GOP dearly in the polls.

Jake, is that you?

The GOP is going through a well deserved self examination. Of course there will be conflict.
Nothing compared to what the Dems will be going through, running like hell from Obamacare.

The far right and libertarian wings of the party have found out just how badly their mistakes were this year.

Most of their candidates will not get to the primaries and the few who do will not make to the general elections, with perhaps a dozen exceptions.

Will the extremist and TP candidates cost the GOP control of the Senate once again in 2014? It will be interesting to see.

Nothing extreme about your own President and party LYING to the American people to pass some fascist Scam Government program on the people...and now MILLIONS are losing their health insurance because of it

And the far left will see anyone that is not in their microscopic view of the world as far right.

The far left cost the Dems the House in 2010. It looks like they will cost the Dems the senate in 2014.

Obama's approvals are in the 30's, almost 60% of the people hate OScamCare and yet it's the Republicans who are in trouble
some people just have to live in the twilight zone and not REALITY

Not if we keep the TeaPs and extremists out of the race, which is our goal in the mainstream GOP.

As the silly far right see anyone to the immediate left of Goldwater as far left.

To the far right, TeaPs, and truebelievers: Obama is not running again in 2014. We have to be for something, not against something or just Me Too.

Goldwater a conservative?

Best friends with guess who? Wife adored her.

Her name starts with an S.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
