A federal holiday in commemoration of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks has been proposed by congresswoman Terri Sewell, of Alabama's 7th District.

The representative brought forward the bill to designate December 1st as Rosa Parks Day.

Rep. Sewell, Alabama's first Black congresswoman, has said she is reintroducing this bill to prevent the "whitewashing" of American history, after the downgrading of Black History Month by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and as federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are scrapped.

I say replace MLK Day with Rosa Parks Day but then what would you do with the MLK in Carbonite Memorial in DC?

It's my favorite decoration.

Maybe one could be commissioned with Biden sitting next to her, all back of the bus. ;)

rename Jan 20th Civil Rights Day, honoring those that fought for civil Rights.

MLK, Rosa, John Lewis, etc.
That would make sense, but I don't think anyone should have a holiday named after them unless they were a POTUS, and then only 25 years minimum after their death so history can judge what they were up to while in office.

How about doing away with any holidays to individuals of this country and focus on ALL Americans. I suggest making ELECTION DAY a federal holiday and EVERYONE gets that day off.

not naming it after any one person, did you miss where 'Civil Rights Day was mentioned?'

Nah. There are enough Federal holidays, where you get a paid, day off, simply for landing a government job, already.

That is actually a very good idea.
That's correct, that approach would actually work, but Democrats are virtue signaling again, led by the Black caucus this time, trying to win back black voters who were entirely turned off with their trans agenda.

I doubt this even moves the needle in the black community, and shows desperation more than anything.

I don't even know if I support that. Are we going to have a holiday for every right that Americans enjoy? Free Speech Day, Second Amendment Day, etc? Federal holidays are another waste of tax payer $$$. How about this---EVERY AMERICAN GETS THEIR OWN BIRTHDAY OFF WITH PAY instead of, say, President's Day?

The day that it was proven exactly how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie-pop should be declared a holiday.
Hey....it makes as much sense as the proposal in the op.
