Americans are on a budget, why isn't our government?
Why do Democrats hate fiscal responsibility?
Fiscal responsibility would be raising the taxes on the wealthy...
The real problem is, most of what is in the budget really can't be cut. We can't cut interest on the debt, unless we start running surpluses. We can't cut defense by much. We can't cut social security or medicare. At least not without radically changing them.
The Republicans never talk about these things.
Both parties are irresponsible on this matter.
Please explain why those who studied, worked hard, and became successful need to be
made to pay for those who didn't study, dropped out, and don't work hard? Punish those who succeed. Brilliant! Forget the political parties, why not programs to make people more self sufficient, rather than just throwing Taxpayer money at them without giving them any chance for better lives. Raise the Taxes on the wealthy??? By all means Comrade... Why not flush the American Dream down the toilet while you are at it.
Yawn... the same tired, "But those rich people worked so hard..." crap you conservatards actualy believe.
Yeah, I mean I guess Paris Hilton worked really hard, and she totally has that tax break coming.
NOT!
I would love to see people get more self-sufficient. But frankly, that isn't what business is about today.
I would love if we had every able bodied American doing a renumerative job and making their own way. But let's be honest, the system isn't based on that. The closest we got to "full employment" was during the Clinton Years, and frankly, business hated that with a passion, having to offer really good salaries to people with thin resumes.
Now, here's the problem. After you crapped your pants at the notion of making the rich pay their fair share, you didn't read the rest of what I wrote.
What are you going to cut that is going to make a signifigant difference?
This chart shows what we are spending in FY 2013. Close to 3.8 trillion.
Government Spending Details: Federal State Local for 2013 - Charts
Defense? That's 901 billion. Medicare/Medicaid? That's 916 Billion. Social Security? 878 Billion. None of those are cuttable. Interest on the debt is 247 billion. So really, 3 Trillion out of 3.8 trillion is already untouchable.
So what's left? Transportation, education and your all time favorite, welfare. (Again, love to put all those people to work, but that might cut into someone's ability to buy a polo pony or a car elevator.) Those things all need to be done.
So unless you want to radically change how we do things, the only alternative is raising taxes on wealthy assholes... which again, I have no problem with.
