He's just a politician and so the extremist remarks pro and con for/against him aren't relevant.

What is relevant is that he's maintaining a position from which he can escape the Trump demolition if it comes, while also maintaining enough power to control Trump excesses that could destroy his party.
Trump doesn't dare touch him because he's not confident that McConnell won't take the party over to his side and against Trump.
Interesting though that Tucker has burnt his bridges. Less interesting in that Fox noise entertainers can twist 180 in the wind as many times as they like and still be forgiven.
