Ford Is Latest Carmaker to Blame Tariffs for Profit Slump

The company estimated that duties on imported cars and car parts would cost it $2 billion this year.

Ford Motor said Tuesday that it lost money in the second quarter as tariffs took a toll on its business. The company also said it expected tariffs to cost it a total of $2 billion this year.

The automaker lost $36 million from April through June, compared with a profit of $1.8 billion a year earlier, even as sales rose 5 percent to $50.2 billion.

Tariffs imposed by President Trump have been a recurring theme as automakers have reported earnings this month. General Motors, Stellantis, Tesla, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen have all cited tariffs as one of the main reasons their profits are falling.

Tariffs lopped $800 million from Ford profits during the second quarter, the company said. Its estimate of $2 billion in tariff costs for the year includes the impact of cost-cutting and other measures the company is taking in response to Mr. Trump’s trade policies.

No car manufactured in the U.S. is entirely made of U.S. parts. That is a fact that will come home to roost any day now.

Yeah, about time american vehicles are made and assembled here in the USA. Take the tariff out of it, create jobs and more revenue, right here at home.

Yes, you are 100 percent correct. These tariffs affect parts and raw materials.

Nice finally trump has these big corps paying their fair share!

Under xiden and the demafacist policies folks like ford were making record profits while a majority of the working class were left worse off

Due in no small part of the outsourcing of U.S. jobs overseas. U.S. Manufactures also opened plants and factories overseas. Parts created in plants and factories will cost more. Higher prices will passed along to the American Consumer. 47's tariffs are nothing but a tax on the American People.

This thread is proof that when one fool, who knows nothing about economics, states an erroneous opinion, another economically deficient mentality will come along and tell him he is right.

The continuing rising cost of vehicles is thanks to Federal mandates that add unnecessary technology to save manufacturers fines for a measly couple miles per gallon. Much of this tech has added far more failure points with software, electronic and mechanical recalls of EVERY manufacturer.
Add the useless distracting features that today's consumers demand and between the two you have added $20,000 dollars to the cost of the vehicle with added sensors, actuators, and associated software.

At least Trump has muzzled the fines for EPA mandates. Exactly why Dodge after dismal sales and high failure of it's twin turbo six is reintroducing the Hemi back in it's trucks.
Toyota should follow suit and go back to the proven 5.7 naturally aspirated v8 and ditch their failed TT6.

I just got my American built used 5.7 Tundra last year, so not worrying about tariffs for years to come.

All for it! Nothing has changed.

We’ve had tariffs since we were founded, it’s not anti capitalist for the govt to tax

Where did you get that clueless idea?

... and is expected to get even worse.

The sexual abuser may soon be encouraging his MAGA conspiracy kooks to keep obsessing over his Epstein scandal as a distraction!
