Can you blame them? Apparently Donald wanted to also re-litigate the election too after failing over 60 times. They probably also figured out that not only could they not defend his insurrection, they probably wouldn't get paid to make fools of themselves. And Rudy can't do it because he's a potential witness. That leaves Sid Powell - Who embarrasses even Trump. How sad.

Former President Donald Trump has suddenly been left without a legal defense team a little more than a week before his impeachment trial is set to begin. It seems the lawyers parted ways with Trump over disagreements about strategy, with the ex president insisting that his lawyers focus on baseless claims of voter fraud and push the lie that the election was stolen from him. His lawyers reportedly wanted to focus instead on whether it was even legal to convict a president after he has left office, according to CNN, which was first to report the departures that were later confirmed by others.
The biggest name to leave the team was Butch Bowers, who was the lead lawyer on the team. His hiring was announced last week with Sen. Lindsey Graham characterizing the South Carolina attorney as the “anchor” of Trump’s legal team. Graham was the one who helped get Bowers into Trump’s team in the first place. The decision for Bowers to leave is being described as “mutual” as he apparently never clicked with Trump. One thing the former president never really liked was how Bowers was not fond of going on television to defend him.
Deborah Barbier, another lawyer from South Carolina who was a top member of the defense team has also left. Two other lawyers from South Carolina, Johnny Gasser and Greg Harris, are also stepping down from the team as is Josh Howard, a lawyer from North Carolina.

They also mentioned how no earnest monies were provided..He still has eight days left to find more Powell's and Giuliani's.

Trump is not screwed because he has the GOP to allow him to skate on his crimes. The GOP just lost its' moniker of being the party of "law and order", to also include, "the party of god", "the moral majority", or "fiscal conservative".

He had a team of nobodies from nowhere already. How can you get deeper than the bottom.of the barrel?

So what? He could decline to present any defense at all and still come out on top. The Constitutional shortcomings of this whole charade are terminal. He is out of office. The Constitution DEMANDS that the Chief Justice Preside. End of case.

Alternatively, even a non-lawyer could simply bring a dictionary, a copy of the Constitution, and a transcript of Trump's January 6th remarks and present a winning case. Twenty minutes, tops.

It is likely that Trump is insisting that his defense attorneys argue the irregularities of the November election, and even though Attorney Ethics are sometimes difficult to discern to a non-lawyer, arguing irrelevancies at the insistence of a client would be out of bounds.

Again, so what? Some of his lawyers are declining to participate. Means nothing.

Until it goes to an actual court.

Which it will, eventually.

Republicans are in the majority of those that do not see anything wrong with what their peterless leader does...

This outcome has been predetermined. Senate Republicans are prepared to let him skate a second time. Rock and a hard place. He enjoys a 90%+ approval rating..even after egging on an insurrection.
I would suspect his former legal team, 1) Didn't want to litigate the election all over again and be associated with that, 2) Trump wouldn't guarantee payment until the impeachment proceeding was over with.
Since he has a habit of not paying his bills, they told him to go fuck himself! :)

Lol, the only reason he's gonna a get off here is that most of the republican senators are so far up his ass they can see his tonsils.

I'm of the mindset that Schumer should skip the trial and go for censure making it unlawful for him to hold another elected office. I think that could get 17 Republican votes. The smart money in the Republican Party wants Rump OUT.

It's unclear whether a censure would prevent him from running for office again. That being said, I'm with you on that. That's the problem with the just and righteous knee-jerk reality of the progressives in the Democratic party. They can't see the big picture or the long game. Yes what happened on January 6th was reprehensible. But you had to know there would be no repercussions for Trump seeing as how he enjoys a 90%+ popularity rating in the Republican party.
I say, he's gone. He's been banished in shame and has no outlets to spread his misinformation. Let the legal system handle him. He's going to be dodging legal action for the rest of his life.

Good points, but his approval rating did take almost a 20 point hit among Republicans after his riot.

Seventy-one percent of Republican voters approve of Trump’s job performance, while 20% disapprove. Independent voters, by a margin of 65% to 28%, disapprove of his job performance.
