Trump’s Big Tariff Talk Crumbles. He’s Backing Down Big Time!

Aww Atheist from Augusta, Trump supports the US and will do whatever he has to in that regard. Commies like you don't need to worry, your country won't be affected by our gained wealth.
Why don't you go out and find a job instead of whining al the time. Is SNAP that great, Libtard from Lithonia???
Trumps idiotic tarriff initiative isn’t supporting the US it is hurting us and our citizens and our future.

Just like last time China called Trumps bluff and he has had to back down.

The tariffs are disruptive, and thats a good thing that we need
After years of whining about Biden inflation and high prices you’re now praising a disruption that is going to raise consumer goods prices across the board? You’ve got to be kidding

Are you happy with being dependent on communist china for many of our basic needs?

I’m not

Also, your side flooded America with illegal migrants

Are they taking jobs from Americans OR lounging around on welfare sucking up benefits?

The tariffs are disruptive, and thats a good thing that we need
We need tariffs like we need cut off our own legs to lose weight. This shit is idiotic.

No one cares where your shoes and shirt is made. They just want it cheap. Putting tariffs on that does nothing.

The CHIPS legislation MOVED production of key national security businesses to the US with incentives.

That is how one addresses strategic businesses, STRATEGICALLY. This shit is bonkers.

Trump’s getting roasted in the latest New York Times piece, and it’s juicy! He was strutting around, promising 145% tariffs on Chinese goods would force companies to build factories in the USA. But surprise, surprise—his big plan’s a total dud! Big dogs like Walmart and Target told him straight: his tariffs would jack up prices and leave shelves empty. Now Trump’s admitting they’re a bust and backing off fast.

Where’s the “deal-maker” who was gonna make the world beg? Looks like reality slapped him silly!

The article’s got more dirt. Trump’s not just caving on tariffs. He’s dodging other fights too. He backed off firing the Federal Reserve chairman and, with the stock market down 10% since he started, his Treasury secretary’s scrambling to avoid a full-on trade war with China. This is the guy who said he’d make global trade bow to America, but now he’s learning it’s not as easy as tweeting tough. The Times calls it a “vivid case study” in Trump’s economic faceplant. Anyone else cracking up at this?

Trump’s crew is spinning it like he’s playing 4D chess, with his press secretary saying “have patience” and claiming 90 countries are ready to deal. Yeah, sure, Karoline! Sounds like a weak excuse for a guy who’s in way over his head. Check out the full takedown on nytimes.com. It’s brutal. So, what’s the vibe? Is Trump’s retreat a total humiliation, or are his diehards still buying the “genius” act? Spill the tea below and let’s clown this flop! #TrumpTariffs #BigL

The most important countries -- China, Japan, Canada, Mexico, India, Germany -- know he's a buffoon, they know he's trying to "Art of the Deal" them. So they're taking their time. They'll sign agreements at some point, but they're not going to bend over for him.

In the end, the material improvements will be marginal, and nowhere near worth the damage he has caused to our global reputation and influence. Every trading partner is moving away from us, and that will continue. They're even moving away from the dollar and Treasuries. That could cause us real damage, and they know it. But they're not our friends any more.

Is there a more destructive, stupid, self-inflicted wound in our history? Not that I can think of.

If that were true, he would not have attempted to overthrow our democracy.

When the largest company CEOs tell you that shelves will be empty and prices will rise it tends to catch the attention of even dumbass Don. Walmart, Target, Home Depot.

Top CEOs Warn Trump Tariffs Will Empty Store Shelves

“The big box CEOs flat out told him the prices aren’t going up, they’re steady right now, but they will go up,” an administration official familiar with the meeting told Axios. “And this wasn’t about food. But he was told that shelves will be empty.”

According to a separate official briefed on the meeting, Trump was told that if he doesn’t change course, the impact could be noticeable in as little as two weeks.

The CEOs words seemed to have some sway on the president.

The following day, Trump told reporters that tariffs on China will “come down substantially” from his previously announced 145% rate.

Just like last time China called Trumps bluff and he has had to back down.

The world isn’t pounding our ass. We are the world top economy and military power.

Tariffs can be used as a tool and should be. But not in the way Trump is doing it.

Neither am I. Trumps actions around tariffs are not helping that situation. They are hurting it. Our leverage against China is dramatically lessened because of Trump
You have it backwards

Before trump took office even sleepy joe biden was raising tariffs against china

Trump is merely taking it to a new level

Yes the trade war will cause some hardships in America

But i liken it to going to the dentist for an aching tooth

It hurts a little up front but has to be done

Tariffs are a fact of life

Every country has them

You have no idea what tariffs were before this mess. We already had higher tariffs than China genius. I do this for a living.

In 2023, prior to the escalation, China imposed an average tariff of approximately 17.8% on U.S. goods. This rate was notably lower than the average U.S. tariff on Chinese goods which stood at around 32.8% .

The way I see it, politicians have been saying for decades that they need to do something about China's unfair trade practices but no one had the balls to even start the ball rolling and face the wrath of the globalist billionaires and the media they own and control. Now that America finally has a POTUS with the balls to do something about it, they want everything resolved immediately while the whole world, including half of America works against him. And this is just one of the myriad problems that politicians have been saying for decades that they need to do something about and never do. Like illegal immigration. Or massive wasteful spending by the government. Then when someone does something they fight him on it.

Correct about Joe raising tariffs on China. I have no issue with being tough on China. But Trump did blanket tariffs on the rest of the world and insulted our closest allies. Boom there goes a ton of leverage that we could have used against China.

Joe brought computer chip production back here. That’s is smart strategy. Trump seems to want shirt and shoe factories to come back. Can’t wait to pay $300 for my next pair of shoes… you excited about that?

The elites in Washington are not hurt by china’s unfair trade practices

In fact they benefit from them

I agree it was a tactical mistake to lead off with high tariffs on countries like canada and the EU

The target should be china

But sooner or later we will have to address unfair trade practices by every nation as it relates to America

because china uses many tricks to evade US tariffs with the assistance of our “friends”

What you seem to want is to be enslaved by communist china

Trump is trying to free you
He is freeing America from prosperity. If all the tariffs go away.... you will be happy. If the tariffs go way up... you will be happy. You have no idea what is best for America. You only know that you are in love with Donald Trump and anything he does is ok.

The billionaire globalists that are making a killing by manufacturing in China and then selling in America also happen to fund the elections of most congress critters and also pay them handsomely with lobbying efforts. Now we know why nothing ever happens to solve America's myriad problems.

Yes, this is a pull back, but that is a good thing, and happening in the nick of time. It is already happening in the fresh food market. But in the food industry, after Covid, companies have learned to adapt, supply chains are more lean, open, and responsive.

But on the hardline side of retail, think clothes, hardware, durable goods. Most companies are looking at a 45 day window, 45 days to order stock for the shelves. It would jump that 45 day to sixty if they had to seek an alternative provider. We are talking empty store shelves at the beginning of the return to school shopping season. Pretty sure that is what those CEO's told the president.

I think I know why Trump decided to go all in and wreak havoc on the status quo. Imagine if he had just started with one thing, like tariffs on China. The resistance would fight him tooth and nail and tie him up for 4 years and nothing would get done. Just like in his first term. So, he had to go all in immediately to get the ball rolling on all the problems he wants to tackle.
