Maybe if the Arabs hadn’t driven out a million Jews from the Arab countries throughout the Middle East, Israel wouldn’t need another 0.1% of land, and the Arabs could keep the 99.8% they have after driving out the Jews.

Nothing always works in world affairs, and if you are facing an intractable enemy committed to your destruction, you had better be tough enough and strong enough to destroy them. There is no diplomatic solution for the conflict with the so called Palestinians, so the only rational course of action for Israel is to destroy the Palestinians' ability to attack Israel. As always, Israel will only have that amount of peace the IDF can win for them.
