There are more than just two genders or sexes. Modern shports needs to create a new category to accommodate them.

My junior high has football for boys, volleyball for girls and separate basketball and track for each gender.

How much should they spend creating a non-binary version of each sport? How many students would play on those teams, and who would watch? Typically lesbians are much stronger and athletic than gay guys, so people might watch for the shadenfreude of seeing those "tansboys" (lesbian girls) run over the "transgirls" (gay boys).
