President Donald Trump is expected to sign a proclamation as soon as Friday that would move to extensively overhaul the H-1B visa program, requiring a $100,000 fee for applications in a bid to curb overuse, according to a White House official familiar with the matter.

Trump is set to sign a proclamation Friday, requiring the payment and asserting that abuse of the H-1B pathway has displaced US workers. The proclamation restricts entry under the H-1B program unless accompanied by the payment, added the official, who was granted anonymity to discuss the policy before it was announced.

Trump also plans to order the Labor Secretary to undertake a rulemaking process to revise prevailing-wage levels for the H-1B program — a move intended to limit the use of visas to undercut wages that would otherwise be paid to American workers.

Well now, Trump must have listened to his voters since saying he was gonna bring more H1Bs in.

To me this reads as a "you better make sure the guy you're hiring is worth it (100K) long-term" clause.

It also prices out jobs that aren't of high-value because you'd never reach ROI with a 100k investment on a job that pays half of that or so annually.

I don't see a big downside here. :)

The price for corporations to hire H1B Visa applicants WAS $1,000 ....

Trump, by executive order, just raised the cost to $100,000.

Making the price of imported labor exponentially more expensive....

Yeah, he was supposed to announce it today.

Well, there goes my dreams lol.

I was a top tech sales rep. but I can't imagine $100k per year! This probably drops the total H1Bs to maybe 1000 a year. They would have to be top executives and/or A.I practitioners at the top 5% of the industry.

Sorry, didn't mean to step on your thread.

Yep....

1,000 per year might be a stretch.

Do you REALLY think corrupt corporations that pay out BILLIONS a year for outsourced labor is going to be defeated with having to pay a few extra bucks? I don't think so.

They'll just jack up prices again, make less product per package, and use ever cheaper resources to make said product.

Yep....

1,000 per year might be a stretch.

Someone said that there are 350,000 Indians alone on U.S soil under the H1B, I don't know if it true or not but assuming it is, that would be 35,000,000,000 in annual revenue to the U.S treasury if they want to keep them all.

This is a huge victory for young white guys who code

Good incentive hire Americans instead.
Yup, the tech moguls keep telling our kids to go into debt learning computer science degrees, then hire Indians to come in at low rates.

That's bullshit.

When I saw a "refresh" on the subject in Reuters this morning...

https://www.reuters.com/sustainabil...-it-operations-says-industry-body-2025-09-20/

...it hit me like a ton-of-bricks that this might be used as one of several ways to "spank" India for continuing to buy Russian oil.

Hit 'em in the pocketbook and in their workforce where it will hurt...

I wonder if there's any truth or validity in that observation...
