Solar is far from cheap. There is the cost of the panels then the fiddling with electricity. The energy from your solar panels go into the grid, not into your house. If your panels don't meet your energy needs you still pay. But, suppose your panels do meet all your energy needs. You pay for the panels and pay the energy tax and surcharges that everyone else pays.
