WASHINGTON, May 2 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday said he planned to strip Harvard University of its tax-exempt status, the latest salvo against the Ivy League school amid a larger crackdown on elite U.S. universities.

"We are going to be taking away Harvard’s Tax Exempt Status. It’s what they deserve!" Trump said in a post on his social media platform, without specifying when he might take action.

Representatives for Harvard could not be immediately reached for comment on the president's post.

Any college with a 53B endowment fund needs to "pay their fair share".....Right dems?

Let's see what the dems think of their ox being gored. ;)

Punish a sacrificial lamb to intimidate the rest.

Following the template perfectly.
Why does Harvard deserve tax exempt status?

Kind of the same question is why does NPR deserve US tax money.

That the road you want to go down donny?

Ok. Just remember you fired first.

Its about discrimination, and Harvard's devotion to Anti-Semitism.

I don't see where Harvard has a leg to stand on, Bob Jones University lost their tax exemption first, and their discrimination was a lot less egregious . BJU wasn't advocating for nazis.

Yeah. Looking back on those threads where we "debated" whether MAGA was fascist - they seem quaint now.

There ya go.

So the "tax exempt" excuse is simply about ideology, with Trump picking the winners and losers.

My point exactly.

Harvard is being sanctioned not due to its marxist ideology, but due to its ant-semitism.

Other liberal schools aren't being sanctioned.

While the IRS has the power to revoke a university's tax-exempt status, only a few instances have occurred. In 1983, the Supreme Court upheld the IRS's decision to deny tax-exempt status to Bob Jones University and Goldsboro Christian Schools due to their discriminatory admissions policies, according to the AP. These cases set a precedent for the IRS's ability to deny or revoke tax-exempt status based on a lack of charitable purpose or adherence to public policy.

And again, suddenly the events of history become a lot more clear.
Not really, you fools look like the fools you looked like before, nothing's changed there

I'm sure Trump will go after Liberty University next.

Also tax exempt.
Why does Harvad even need to be federally tax exempt at this point? Any college for that matter that's been around a while and has an endowment reserve.

If a state or locality wants to exempt them then that's on them but the US taxpayer (most of whom could not even afford to go to an I-L school) should not be footing the bill.

Given the I-L's miserable Marxist track record of the past few decades and the damage many of their left-leaning graduates have done to the country, I say not another nickel of tax relief.

During one of the covid years a graduating class was asked how they were politically and only two said they were not progressive.

Now a new start-up college maybe, but any tax relief on the federal level should expire in X amount of time like most local/state exemptions do for businesses.
