What a con artist !!!!!!!!
So much for bringing jobs back to America.
shing an increasingly nativist platform throughout this election cycle, Donald Trump has made bringing jobs back to America a cornerstone of his campaign. Last week at the Republican National Convention, the billionaire presidential candidate touted his plan to “create millions of jobs” and his “new, fair-trade policy that protects our jobs and stands up to the countries that cheat.” At the same time, Trump is apparently seeking to import foreign workers to fill 78 low-wage jobs at two of his properties in Florida—despite the presence of hundreds of nearby residents looking for work.
A BuzzFeed News investigation reported that in his continuing effort to make America great again, the G.O.P. nominee recently applied for 65 H-2B visas to fill a mix of housekeeping, cooking, and wait-staff positions at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach. He is also seeking an additional 13 foreign workers for cooking and wait-staff roles at the Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter. The jobs will span an eight-month period from October of this year to the end of May 2017 and will all pay less than $15 per hour. Both resorts will pay housekeepers a rate of $10.17 per hour, wait staff $11.13 per hour, and cooks $12.74 per hour. (Trump did not respond to a BuzzFeed News request for comment.)
The H2-B visa program was created to allow U.S. employers to hire foreigners to fill temporary jobs, with the key stipulation that “there are not enough U.S. workers who are able, willing, qualified, and available to do the temporary work,” according to the Department of Homeland Security. On Wednesday night at the D.N.C., former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg took a shot at Trump over his use of the program. “He says he wants to put Americans back to work, but he games the U.S. visa system so he can hire temporary foreign workers at low wages,” he said. (Trump himself has repeatedly defended the practice, arguing that it is nearly impossible to find Americans to work temporary jobs during the hot season in Florida. “Everybody agrees with me on that. They were part-time jobs,” the real-estate mogulexplained during a debate earlier this year. “Otherwise we might as well have just closed the doors.”)
Donald Trump has a long history of relying on foreign labor at the properties he owns. According to a CNNreport, of the 250 jobs available at the Mar-a-Lago resort between the beginning of 2013 and the fall of 2015, Americans only filled four, with the remaining 246 jobs going to foreign workers on H2-B visas. CNN found that Trump only met the “bare minimum” requirement to prove that there weren’t enough Americans to fill the positions, but he did pay as good as or better than wages paid to other employers in the area. Since he declared his candidacy, Trump has been approved to hire a total of 149 workers on H2-B visas at “companies owned by him or bearing his name” in New York, Virginia, and Florida, BuzzFeed Newsreports.
While Trump doesn’t appear to have broken any laws and has met the requirements set by the D.H.S., Tom Veenstra, a senior director at the career services center in Palm Beach, told BuzzFeed News via e-mail that there were 1,327 Palm Beach county residents seeking server, cook, and chef jobs in the area. Maybe these people don’t want to work for a demagogue. Or maybe Trump simply didn’t try very hard to hire Americans first.
Donald Trump Quietly Petitions to Fill His Resorts with More Foreign Workers
