As Paul Walczak awaited sentencing early this year, his best hope for avoiding prison time rested with the newly inaugurated president.

Mr. Walczak, a former nursing home executive who had pleaded guilty to tax crimes days after the 2024 election, submitted a pardon application to President Trump around Inauguration Day. The application focused not solely on Mr. Walczak’s offenses but also on the political activity of his mother, Elizabeth Fago.

Ms. Fago had raised millions of dollars for Mr. Trump’s campaigns and those of other Republicans, the application said. It also highlighted her connections to an effort to sabotage Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s 2020 campaign by publicizing the addiction diary of his daughter Ashley Biden — an episode that drew law enforcement scrutiny.

Mr. Walczak’s pardon application argued that his criminal prosecution was motivated more by his mother’s efforts for Mr. Trump than by his admitted use of money earmarked for employees’ taxes to fund an extravagant lifestyle.

Still, weeks went by and no pardon was forthcoming, even as Mr. Trump issued clemency grants to hundreds of other allies.

Then, Ms. Fago was invited to a $1-million-per-person fund-raising dinner last month that promised face-to-face access to Mr. Trump at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Fla.

Less than three weeks after she attended the dinner, Mr. Trump signed a full and unconditional pardon.

There should be a sign on the main entrance to the WH that says......."Open for Business."

No need for a sign. 24 hour convivence stores don't have sign like that. When there are customers walking through the door, you know they are open.

He's quite transparent about accepting bribes and doesn't care who knows it. After all, the SC gave him a backstop.

What bribe? You have to prove a quid pro quo, that the donation was contingent upon receipt of the pardon.

Until and unless you do that, what you said is a calumny which can get you sued.

Also is pardoning reality stars Todd & Julie Chrisley which I actually agree with. Julie won an appeal and the judge sentenced her to more probation after prison than she was legally allowed to just out of spite for having been overturned on appeal.

Just another raindrop in the hurricane.

He's not even trying to hide any of this any more, because he knows he doesn't have to. The flock will ignore it, the GQP congress will avoid it, and the press is terrified and paralyzed.

This is a Mafia administration.

Justice is for sale in the US.

Yeah those tax cheaters are way worse than murders and drug dealers.

The murderer that Biden pardoned was an 80 year old woman. She shot her husband after he savagely beat her while she was pregnant. She served her full sentence and went on to be an advocate for battered women.

So yeah, she’s better than the couple who committed massive bank fraud to pad their exorbitant lifestyle and showed no remorse.

What was I thinking? I'm sure the pardon coming a few weeks after the $1M dinner was just a coincidence. ;)

The two people you say are “cop killers” were found not guilty by a federal jury of that charge. The judge disagreed and gave them life in prison anyway because he thought they did commit the murder. That’s a miscarriage of justice.
