I can't believe that a .223 round could make contact with his ear and only cause a scratch, I'm not a ballistics expert so maybe they know how much velocity was lost from the distance Crooks shot from but if it was a round that hit him and he walked away with only a scratch he is really extraordinarily lucky, and I seriously doubt 140 meters that round lost much velocity.

Anyone who served in the Army shot at 300 meter targets at the range.
