Dismissed U.S. carrier captain gets hero's ovation from crew

A brief clip showed Captain Brett Crozier walking down the gangplank of the Theodore Roosevelt as crew members repeatedly chanted “Captain Crozier, Captain Crozier!”

Crozier turned to wave at the crew after he stepped ashore in Guam.

The removal of Crozier, first reported by Reuters, was announced by acting U.S. Navy Secretary Thomas Modly, who said the captain of the nuclear-powered vessel of 5,000 crew members had exercised poor judgment in the way he “broadly” distributed a letter to superiors.

Unsurprisingly, the guy is a hero with the men he commanded. He acted to protect their lives and well being.

Trump went over the head of the military system of justice to return the rank of a war criminal. Surely he can do the same for someone who did something worthy of our respect.

I agree. It sounds like he is being punished for going public to save this the crew on his ship when his superiors in their ivory tower in Washington weren't acting fast enough. However, we don't know the whole story either. There may more than meets the eye to how he handled this and I've seen a lot of former military comment on social media that the Captain didn't follow protocol and they aren't surprised he got relieved from command over this.

Don't hold you breath waiting for that to happen.

I'm not. Just pointing out this is an opportunity to do the right thing. Unfortunately, Trump's instinct is always to do the opposite.

Actually, he didn't go public. The letter he sent to the Navy was leaked to the media.

"Crozier raised the alarm this week, sending a strongly worded letter to Navy leadership that detailed his concerns about the spread of the virus on the ship. The letter leaked to the media and generated a series of headlines."

Commander-in-Chief of the Military has its privileges.

return the rank of a war criminal
and here is where you show your partisan hackery.

.

It certainly appears negative responses are not “partisan hackery”.
It appears that your response is “partisan hackery” though.

When one is employed by the government, in high command, one must go through the chain of command. He was well aware of the protocol, if on the other hand, as others have said, that someone intercepted and leaked the memo, they should be tried, convicted, and jailed. There is no defense for compromising national security, a aircraft carrier is a vital component in our national defense.

How did leaking the letter compromise national security?

How did leaking the letter compromise national security?
He likely did leak it.

And he likely knew that was the end of his career.

The guy sacrificed his career for his men

He threw himself on the grenade and they appreciate it

Colfax: A military installation that has been compromised, in this case outbreak of Covid-19, the ability of the instillation to respond as designed has been compromised. The how and why this was released is not the issue. The question should be did he follow protocol and did his superior officer(s) fail to respond? In the event his direct superior officer(s) failed to respond then they are guilty of dereliction of duty.

How so?

Trump pardons Army officers, restores Navy SEAL's rank in war crimes cases

His men were getting infected by the day. He has a duty to the people who serve him too.. He was needless putting his men in harms way.

The guy was kicked because he embarrassed someone in Washington. The memo was leaked and he may be a suspect and the main reason he is the suspect is because his passion for his men.

Just as a matter of interest are the sailors infected off the carrier now?

Which "war criminals" did Trump pardon?

Criminal ..is what our next president says it is

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said Sunday that the dismissal of the captain of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, who raised the alarm about a coronavirus outbreak on the aircraft carrier, is “close to criminal.”

The former vice president said on ABC’s “This Week” that Capt. Brett Crozier “stood up and said what had to be said” with his sailors “in danger” when he wrote a letter requesting help from Navy leaders, which ended up leaking to the media.

“I think it’s close to criminal the way they’re dealing with this guy,” he said.

“I think he should have a commendation rather than be fired,” he added.
