I read today where this idea seems to be gaining support with a coalition of traditional republican voters who were still undecided about Trump. I think it is an interesting consideration. Gingrich is pretty much a revolutionary hero to republican establishment types. Neocons love him, he's from the good old heart of the South... he even has some street cred with Conservatives. HE is who balanced Hillary's husband's budget as well as gifting him his other great achievement besides Monica and impeachment... welfare reform.

Now.... he did later on buy in to the whole global warming nonsense and did that stupid commercial with Nancy Pelosi. And on a personal level, he has a sort of an asshole quality like Trump... not sure how well two assholes can work together on the campaign trail... that might get interesting... but then, it's not as if Trump can simply nominate himself as his own VP.... or could he? Hell, this is Donald Trump! Maybe he could?

Seriously though, I think Newt Gingrich is a very intelligent pick for Trump. He has that "gravitas" thing... he knows what's going on with who... It's his sandbox. Presiding over the Senate will be right up his alley. Having someone like him be the spokesman for your agenda is not a bad thing. There is really, probably not a better-qualified pick for VP.

The Donald was absolutely correct. In fact, if you study Connecticut history The Great Swamp Fight, which enlisted friendly tribes such as the Mohegans, supposedly ended the Pequot tribe permanently. That was over 300 years ago!

But,....but,.... the Right insists the budget was NEVER balanced during the Clinton years. They point to the GOP National Debt increasing every year.

When a political party is overly concerned about who their nominee chooses for VP candidate...because they think it will turn their nominee from being a loser to being a winner, you might have some trouble.

Of course....some concern is needed....lest you end up with someone like Palin on the ticket.

Strike a balance, nutbags.

I think he'll pick war-hero, Conservative, and all around Obama hater Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn. This will give him the foreign policy piece he needs - and finally get the fucked-up VA squared away, and our men and women taken care of.

Nobody has heard of this Flynn guy.

The real problem is, Newt is the only guy narcissistic enough to want to run with Trump. Most of the rest of the GOP doesn't want to be caught having a drink with him.

A Vice-Presidential Pick serves several purposes.

1) Helping a candidate in a region he is seen as weak. This is less important now, as the country is pretty much divided between Red and Blue States. Newt is from Georgia, and even though polls have Georgia in the "Too Close to Call" column, the last time Democrats took Georgia was 1980, and only because Jimmy Carter was from there.

Newt is no help there.

2) Helping a candidate in a policy area where he is seen as weak. Good examples are Biden or Cheney.

Newt is a big help there.

3) Helping a candidate by pandering to constiuencies that have felt Neglected. Palin with Conservatives would be a great example. So would Eagleton in 1972.

It's the establishment Republicans who are miffed Trump hijacked their party. They have no love for Newt, so he's no help there.

4) Impeachment/Assassination INsurance. - A pick that is so unthinkable that you'd never want him to be that one heartbeat away. Dan Quayle comes to mind.

Newt might be a good pick in that regard.

The thing is, Vice Presidential Picks are never game changers. Palin isn't the reason McCain lost, as bad as she was. Bush-41 picked Dan Quayle of the Deer in the Headlights Look, and he still won.

Yep, there's quite a few girlie men aren't there?
