Civilian Control of the military is perfectly proper. You describe Trump as a lame duck, but, the election remains unsettled, and even if Biden prevails, he will immediately be a lame duck as no one expects him to run for a second term.

Yeah, but he's the President and you ain't.

Most people don't realize just how much power the president has. To think he would not use that power to stay in office is just wishful thinking. If the president initiated a nuclear attack, the Secretary of Defense would have to confirm it. Of course there is no Secretary of Defense. If the president decided he would use the US military within the US, he certainly has the power to do so. The one person that could check him by involving congress is the Secretary of Defense.
