Trump drive to pursue critics puts US on path to dictatorship, Democrats warn

The evidence is well documented

With all due respect, you didn’t investigate and you’re not a prosecutor.

So your opinion is far less valuable than that of the man who is a prosecutor and did do the investigation.

‘Top Democratic leaders on Sunday warned that Donald Trump’s drive to go after his political opponents is putting the US on a path to becoming a dictatorship and a “banana republic” just eight months into his second presidency.

The warnings came a day after Trump’s public call for the justice department to take action against perceived enemies – and after ABC yanked its late-night talkshow host Jimmy Kimmel off the air in the wake of a threat from regulators at the Federal Communications Commission who are loyal to the president. Such behaviors, along with others since his return to the Oval Office in January, has prompted many who are not fiercely aligned with him to describe him as an authoritarian.

Turning the justice department “into an instrument that goes after his enemies, whether they’re guilty or not … is the path to a dictatorship,” Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer said on CNN. “That’s what dictatorships do.”

Schumer’s fellow Democratic senator Chris Murphy, meanwhile, suggested the US was already becoming a “banana republic”. “The president of the United States is now employing the full power of the federal government, the FCC the department of justice, in order to punish, lock up, take down off the air all of his political enemies,” Murphy said on ABC.’

Democrats are correct, of course.

The Trump regime’s criminal, unconstitutional efforts to prosecute political opponents absent evidence of wrongdoing is what despots and dictators do.
More raw sewage no doubt.

Trump admires and wants to be like Putin and other oligarchs. He raises that point often. The republican party has become fascist for a while now. They do not like the complexities of modern life and desire some imaginary America where they control all. Democracy is too open and complex for the narrow minded.

"Democracy is too open and complex for the narrow minded."

Such is the reason for the fascism that grips the democrat party. The "Party of political assassination" is desperate as their base is crumbling and they're now lashing out.

It’s been all over legitimate news sources for a few days now.
Weird. Found another link, they seem to say that the "sting" wasn't legal since Trump wasn't elected and Homan has no position in the administration. A "theoretical" bribe, not a real one.

"Investigators at the time were still working to determine whether Homan would have followed through on arranging the government contracts, as some in the Justice Department questioned the legal viability of charges in a scenario where Homan had proposed the government contract when Trump’s election victory wasn’t yet guaranteed, according to the sources."

Exactly. They had to shut down the investigation before he actually completed the crime.

You really don’t pay attention to what’s happening.

And you don’t want to.
You are as befuddled as always.
From the ABC link,

"The sting operation, which stemmed from a broader public corruption probe that did not initially target Homan, led agents to an encounter in which they recorded Homan allegedly accepting a bag containing $50,000 in cash while agreeing to potentially help the men obtain government contracts in the event Trump won the 2024 election, the sources said.

You were babbling about "Trump's highly corrupt DOJ"

Trump wasn't in office, therefore how could it be Trump's DOJ?

You do "stupid" for a living.

You didn’t read the whole thing.

The shuttering of the investigation, which was formalized in the early days of the Trump administration, has raised concerns among current and former officials about the Trump administration further politicizing the Justice Department by protecting high-profile officials from legal scrutiny.

"The Justice Dept. said there was "no credible evidence" of criminal wrongdoing."

Where do you want to take your conspiracy theory now?

A worthless claim when it comes from this corrupt DoJ.

Fascists kill their enemies. We've had a very recent example.

Actually, the investigation found that there was no crime until he committed the crime.

The DoJ needed to see if he was going to act on the bribe he was given.

You’re not seriously okay with people taking bags of cash and promising to help them out if they get into government, are you?
