In a Republic, actually
‘Trump would like to erase the Education Department, but he can’t do that with just a stroke of the pen.

Trump has repeatedly argued the department should be terminated, a long-held priority in Republican circles since Congress created it in 1979. The hitch is that presidents can't single-handedly abolish departments that lawmakers created by statute, according to experts. The same goes for many of its programs, such as Title I for children living in poverty and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

"We're going to move the Department of Education," Trump told reporters Wednesday at the White House. "We're going to move education into the states, so that the states ? instead of bureaucrats working in Washington ? can run education."

The statutes mean Congress must agree to eliminate the department completely or move its funding programs to another agency. Instead, the administration laid off or bought out nearly half the department on Tuesday. States challenged the firings in federal court and teachers unions vowed to fight “tooth and nail" by arguing the cuts could be ruinous.’

"We're going to move education into the states...”

So children in Republican-controlled states can continue to suffer from a poor quality of education; indeed, in red states the quality of education would become even worse than it is now.

The right’s war on education continues.

Trump can absolutely defang the DOE. Children will be much better off without the Marxist propaganda put forth by the DOE.

So he can't eliminate the DOE, but he sure as fuck can fold, spindle, mutilate, neuter, and gut it.

The U.S. Department of Education... as a cabinet level agency was established by Congress in 1979 with President Jimmy Carter signing the Department of Education Organization Act into law...
Congress can always undo what they have done if they have a willing president to sign the new bill....
Look libs.... its failing us... when the feds run schools politics and left or right wing agendas get infused into education and proper education gets replaced by political ideology.... it turns kids into tools of an agenda not educated Americans...

So you're basically admitting that the Dept of ED isn't justifying it's existence.

After an annual budget of over $280 billion you admit that education in America is bad.....and "would become even worse than it is now"

The current dept. can certainly cut off funding from those states that are violating Title VI or Title IX provisions though. I can't wait to hear the blue states whining when they can't get funding because they allowed men to play in women's sports. LMAO

Yup, I forsee a DofE with two employees. A office in another agency's building, and a budget of 120k.

FIFY.
Very wasteful and Unnecessary.

Let the States run their OWN Education, then Arkansas, Mississippi and West Virginia can implement their OWN State test and LIE about the data. Dummest States in America. We all know this.

Add WA to that list, eh Winnie ^^^.
WA is Head and Shoulders above most States.

Of course you are unable to recognize that.
Goes against your agenda.

The Opimpia gang would have a stroke over that one for sure!

Hey Clayton do you ever analyze anything or do you just go with your FEELZ? Did you know that the kids at the very bottom end of educational development are from Deep Blue urban districts like Baltimore, D.C., Chicago, Oakland, Milwaukee, etc. Most of those kids can't read past the 3rd grade level.

I despise the stance that Chris Reykdal made when he protected boys.
There is NO WAY I can support boys/men playing in girls/women leagues.
