  • The Trump administration will start garnishing the wages of student loan borrowers in default in early January, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Education confirmed to CNBC on Tuesday.

  • More than 5 million student loan borrowers are currently in default, and that total could swell to roughly 10 million borrowers soon, the Education Department said earlier this year.
About time and quit making loans for liberal arts degrees.

The people who quit paying because they were "Ridin' with Biden" likely won’t cost many votes on the Rep. side in the mid-terms.

I sort of agree, but shouldn't they consider the REASON they are in default? What if they are in default because they cannot find good enough work to afford it, a direct result of the government's own actions?

I would support this in cases where the defaulter clearly has the opportunity to repay the loan but has simply chosen not to do so.

The feds used to do this … administrative garnishments and the IRS offset program.

College is a giant scam and only morons participate. If you want to learn a subject, read a book.

been hearing that for about 15 years now. I'll believe it when I see it.

I can remember when one of my co-workers was getting his wages garnished for his student loan back in '98.

Its easy to be cynical

There times when trump talks tough but does not follow through

But i hope this is not one if those times

The college loan program is a scam

Indeed Trump makes it easy.

I had my wages garnished for student loans, back in the 90s.

Best thing that ever happened to me.

On the day I finally finished the loans, I took ONE paycheck to celebrate, then I joined the credit union to start serious saving.

The path to wealth creation is to live within your means.

A great deal of young republican voters out there, whom I can't wait till they get hit with this.

Happened to me. I didn't like it, but I didn't cry like a little girl.
