Trump Administration to Announce Trade Deal With Britain

"Trump Administration to Announce Trade Deal With Britain

A deal would be a positive sign for both governments, which have eyed an agreement since President Trump’s first term.

President Trump is expected to announce on Thursday that the United States will strike a trade agreement with Britain, according to three people familiar with the plans.
Mr. Trump teased a new trade agreement in a social media post on Wednesday night, though he did not specify which nation was part of the deal.

“Big News Conference tomorrow morning at 10:00 A.M., The Oval Office, concerning a MAJOR TRADE DEAL WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF A BIG, AND HIGHLY RESPECTED, COUNTRY. THE FIRST OF MANY!!!” he wrote.

A spokesman for the White House declined to comment beyond Mr. Trump’s post. A spokesman for the British Embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment."

Boy, this will sadden the Democrats who desire American decline. They do not want the US to address our trade imbalances with the world.

wtf? What will sadden Democrats? Trump breaking shit and then announcing he fixed something?

I've been looking to get a watch from London for my birthday...then Trump gave me a gift of $800 tarrif on it, so I'm not getting anything for now.

What a great guy, if only I wasn't so personally flawed then surely I would be more apreciative of the things he is doing for me. :rolleyes-41:

Striking a trade deal is good but whether it is a good or bad deal is yet to be determined. It's like an NFL draft pick, it is a matter on how things turn out. With the USMCA trade agreement, which took effect in 2020, Mexico struck gold as our trade deficit for 2024 was 172.8% of what it was in 2019.

With future trade balance figures, it'll be easy to objectively judge the matter based on facts. Historically we've had a positive trade balance with the United Kingdom each year since 2016. Let's hope we do even better.

What moron would create such a deal?

Nah. Most of my day is spent on projects, especially in the spring. Pool is back open. I just complete 14 sections of two-sided arch topped fencing, except for staining that has to wait until after the rainy season. Other than that, I'm doing a lot of reading. I just finished Past Tense by Lee Child and am about to start Blue Moon, also by Lee Child. Kayaking will start back after I get caught up on my spring project settled. I want to finish the last segments of the Forked Deer and Obion to the Mississippi River. All the kids and grandkids are coming in, this weekend, for Mother's Day. I'm known for being very active, and rarely tired.

Gee, so Trump isn't bringing the country down or 'destroying democracy', good to know, 🤡

Is it tiring hating Trump 24/7?

Once again you make false assumptions about the opposition. Nobody "hates" your stupid President. Trump has a certain Wyly Coyote quality about his Presidency that is highly entertaining.

Unlike you, we're not looking at him adoringly, believing everything he says, because we know he's lying - about everything, all of the time.

Having seen his treatment of President Zelensky in the Oval Office blow up in his face, Trump is now kissing the asses of every world leader who has shown up at the White House. Especially since nearly all of them have told him they will not tolerate his disregard and tearing up of the trade deals they signed the last time Trump was in the White House.

The Japanese have said they'll abide by the terms of the 2019 trade deal they signed with the Trump Administration.

The USMCA Trade Deal Trump signed with Canada and Mexico in 2019 has an automatic review provision which comes up in 2026. Canada will be happy to review the deal at that time. In the meantime, Trump's tariffs on Canada and Mexico violate the terms of the Trump's own agreement, but then tearing up deals he's made is a classic Trump tactic, which is why his companies keep going bankrupt.

I'm watching the presser now, and so there is no "deal" yet. There's agreement on a framework of a deal. A dog and pony show, but you don't have anything yet, but an announcement of an agreement.

How do you know? You think the PM just made the deal all by himself?

I follow British Parliament. If there was a "deal", the PM would be taking it to Parliament.

The have a general framework of an agreement, but as Trump said, "They're working out the details".

No one cares what you have to say, Karen. I think I’d kill myself if my entire life consisted of bitching about who’s running Canada.

Trump seems to have made a deal with the UK. He still is not lifting the tariffs. Now the Trump cult will declare this as the greatest idea ever, but the fact is that the UK has been having problems ever since they left the UK because inherent in that agreement with the UK was access to markets they no longer have since they left. So the UIK needed this idea and it's not like we have never done business with the UK.

Live updates: Trump announces 'full and comprehensive' trade deal with UK

President Donald Trump touted a “tremendous trade deal” between the U.S. and United Kingdom as he discussed the first trade agreement since he imposed sweeping tariffs in April.

“I'm thrilled to announce that we have reached a breakthrough trade deal with the United Kingdom,” Trump said May 8 from the Oval Office, noting that the agreement happened to fall on "Victory Day" in celebration of the end of World War II. “There could be no more perfect morning to reach this historic agreement,” Trump said.

Trump said the agreement would provide billions of dollars in access for U.S. agricultural products such as beef and ethanol. “They’re opening up their country,” Trump said. “Their country is a little closed and we appreciate it.”

I sympathize with your loss

Trump enacted the tariff just so you could not afford the import duty on an $8,000 watch

So, be clear, you are claiming the PM did this all on his own? THe PM of England, Starmer said this was a "historic day" that is a "real tribute to the history that w have of working so closely together"

I am literally watching the Press Conference now.
