Texas banned these a few years ago, BECAUSE the "police" were ABUSING them and USING them as bait traps to rip off people doing NOTHING WRONG or illegal.

Plano, Tx had such a set up, where you could NOT make a left turn at a busy intersection WITHOUT getting ticketed by this camera and how it was set up to click the very instant the light turned red, which was programmed to turn red WITHOUT any yellow/amber light in between the red and green. Therefore anybody making a left turn got a $75 ticket automatically. No telling how many BILLIONS of dollars they scammed from people trying to get to and from work, since it was a busy industrial area.

Now that they've removed the camera, they've had to reprogram the lights to go yellow/amber between red and green, and now people CAN make a left turn without "running a red light".

I'm in FAVOR of these lights, but ANY and ALL police office and cities ABUSING them to rake in blood money from the tax payers SHOULD BE JAILED IMMEDIATELY and LOSE EVERYTHING THEY HAVE and NEVER be able to hold ANY kind of government job again.

Never really was for the cameras, and they were ruled unconstitutional in MN.
But since the covid shutdown, people have lost their minds on the roads and are speeding, performing reckless maneuvers that put everyone at risk, to gain a few seconds to get to a job they probably hate.
Even with radar telling people what their speed is in a school zone, they ignore it and frequently drive 20 mph over.
Now I am slightly in favor of it only because idiots can't seem to show patience or common courtesy behind the wheel.

One thing that does control speed is winter.
Once the usual morons wreck their car in a snowstorm, it tends to slow things down for a couple months.

Now with the idiot dealt with, these cameras were ruled unconstitutional in Louisiana as well. But we were one of the first states to get them way back in like 2006. The problem was, they were treated like a bill, not a traffic fine. If you didn't pay, they went to collections. There was no proof you even RECEIVED the ticket to pay it, you couldn't challenge it in court, and you couldn't confront your accuser. We had cameras from Redflex, not sure if they're even in business anymore. People were getting tickets mailed to them who lent someone their car but the photos couldn't prove who was driving so the owner was automatically on the hook. No, you can't do that.

The city council had a lot of explaining to do with stats showed that accidents went UP at intersections with cameras installed. T bone accidents went down a little but rear end accidents skyrocketed.

It took a few years but they were finally pulled. I don't know if LA decied they were illegal or just my city. I think possibly NO has them now. Not sure, don't live there.
