Americans do not seem to understand that people elsewhere in the world can be quite different from us. To us, this story is horrible (free speech, free press, reporting facts, etc...). But to Zelensky and other Ukrainians there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Such a report, whether right or wrong, send the wrong message for them. Therefore, this is a threat and an insult, and deserves to be dealt with in a harsh manner. Its essentially the same thing as we see Muslims do all over the world. The fact is, most people outside of the USA (including Christians of one sect or another), do not value human life nearly as much as we do. Smiting your enemy with lethal force is not the big deal it is in some western countries. Look at the honor killings engaged in some parts of the world.

These Ukrainians are a different breed. They have lived in a tumultuous part of the world that has subjected them to much violence and death over the centuries. Likewise, we do not really get the motivations of Russia and its desire to fortify itself. Russia has been penetrated and invaded more times throughout history than Kamala Harris's cooter. There is reason for them to do what they do. They are not irrational actors.

That said, while I do firmly believe we ought to strive to understand the histories of people around the world in order to better understand them and be able to predict their future actions, I most certainly do not give anyone a pass. America's foreign policy must be dictated by what is in our best national interest. Yes, Zelensky is a douche canoe. But this is nothing new. YOU should have learned this long ago. But the primary reason we ought not be fucking around in that particular regional squabble, nor should we be pissing away money and resources there, is because it is not in our best national interest to do so.
