Until and unless the two parties get past this and put the country first, we'll keep seeing wild swings back and forth. All that produces over time is decay. I don't understand why that is so difficult to see.

Anyone who has had a job or a business that requires collaboration knows what the steps would be. The first thing that has to happen, long before individual issues are addressed, is a reopening of normal, adult, intelligent, civil conversation and a commitment to try.

But right now, anyone who did that would be villified and primaried. So I don't know how to get there from here.

Y'know, I don't think that the traditional concerns that Americans have had -- jobs, the economy, security, health care, whatever -- are at play as much as they used to be. MAGA will say they are, but their number one priority -- the white replacement fear -- just dwarfs everything else put together. All the other issues seem to flow from that. They'll put up with damn near anything if Trump stays on that. Hell, they're even cozying up to Ghislaine Maxwell, for ****'s sake.

Further, the America I'm seeing now appears to be okay with that. I'd never have thought I'd say that, but I think it's true. And thinking that Trump's dropping polls are a positive sign for the Dems in 2026 and 2028 may also be wrong. There may be people who won't vote for Trump because he's such a buffoon and awful human being, but they WILL vote GQP for the reason above.

Wherever the Dems are hiding right now, they'd better stop assuming anything. I've said many times, I learned in 2016 that America isn't what I thought it was. I don't think the Dems have figured that out yet. Or at least they don't agree.
