My thoughts are that as a nation we are so concerned with the NOW that we aren't paying much attention to the FUTURE. There was a time when parents and grandparents and friends and neighbors wanted our children and the ones that follow them to have a better life. But I don't see much of that anymore, there are too many ignored children who are left without guidance and much in the way of a real education. They're not taught to think for themselves but what to think and do as they are told, and they're seeing the consequences of any resistance.
We are instead leaving them a shit world without any idea how to turn things around. Inflation and recessions/depressions do not fix themselves, you have to adopt some pretty drastic measures by today's standards. Otherwise, the problems persist and perhaps worsen until eventually we do something that works after we've tried everything else that was easier. We are IMHO failing our own children. We can blame it all on our political leaders and certainly they deserve every bit of censure they get, but mostly it's on us. We got lazy and did not hold our leaders accountable and being ordinary people they continued to take advantage of the system. Which BTW is the best political system ever known to man, but we allowed the people in that system to corrupt themselves and that's our fault as much as theirs.
My guess at this point is that things are going to get really ugly, maybe as bad as they were in the 1930s. Looks like we're headed in that direction, and it'll be up to those future generations to work their way out of the mess we put them in. And I think they will, new leaders and new policies will replace the old bullshit and they very well may turn this country around from impending disaster after floundering around for awhile. Good luck to 'em.
Oh, and BTW Happy 4th of July to everyone!
