Had an idea for a new type of school system

The main focus is:
  • Learn the basics: reading, writing and math
  • Learn how things work: cooking, business, building, society, wide exposure to the world
  • Learn Yourself
School year is a “work expands to fit the time allowed” concept and needs to be forgotten

Thoughts?

What do you think we do now? Did you attend a crappy school system just because you don't appear to be very bright?

Go ahead and start your system as soon as you get the degrees and qualify to do so! You are pathetic know-nothing when it comes to education and have demonstrated that many times.

Have a nice day!

I see the Progressive deteriorating and destruction of our one size fits all educational system. Each generation less educated, informed and motivated than the last. Today’s young students turn to parents who can’t point to America on a map. Are we even in the top 20 any longer in terms of world class education?

I went to public school in the Bronx. In elementary school PS14, Bruckner Blvd. the Principal was the de facto owner of the school and insisted every student receive a quality education and always give it their best.

In middle School JHS 101 on Lafayette Avenue I was in the gifted classes. We read Dante’s Inferno in 7th grade; in public school in the Bronx. Still, one of the teachers bragged she used the exact same lesson plan for the past 20 years; she had a Masters degree in education. The crime of it was that she made the same salary as our science teacher Michael Kadish, who was one of the greatest motivators and educators in the entire country.

This thought experiment on education stems from my being mostly bored and restless at having to sit in a classroom all day.

I’d have local restaurants preparing school lunches and give students the opportunity to learn how that’s done. I’d integrate real world experience with the classroom.

Boy, these "gifted" programs must have been mighty crowded considering how many internet people claim to have been in them! Almost as many as all the millionaire tough guys online!

I always debated the liberal teachers I had. I never swallowed their bullshit but many kids did.

I need to make things up to impress people I don’t know on a message board

Sure

You nailed it

Try that kind of shit in .my school district in Kentucky where the schools are surrounded by cornfields on all 4 sides. Your experience with education means nothing in the big picture. Education has not failed. Society has failed. What you ask education to do is to correct society's failings and that always fails.

Education is part of the big Fail

I’m not talking about you as an individual teacher, there are always exceptional teachers. I’m talking about the overall educational system

There is nothing wrong with our system out here in flyover country if we can eliminate the woke policies of the liberals in charge of the blue cities and states.

We had a school system who taught the basics +. We also had cooking/ home economics classes, business classes, college prep, building class, fitness/gym class and Shop for those who wanted to learn vocational skills. It is amazing what can be accomplished when woke isn't front and center...

Economic Bullies Love This

It's unnatural for kids to get no reward and no punishment. Rewards 10 or 20 years later are not motivating. This system creates bored, submissive, and incompetent employees.

Sounds like Montessori.

Educational priorities are ass backwards. After learning how to read, write, and do simple math people need to be taught what they absolutely need to know to survive and succeed in today's world. Other 'nice but not necessary' stuff can be learned afterwards.

Unk,
Millions (my guess) of unsanitary, unnecessary, and damaging toilet overflows occur each year because people don't know how a toilet works or how to stop an overflow (it's really quite simple). Who is responsible for educating* people about this? I say it's the "educational system".

*I try to educate my tenants regarding this, and it has helped greatly, although some overflows still happen.

I was always confused about what they wanted us to learn. There must have been more than the simple shit they were teaching. I just couldn't figger it out.
