Here was a man who was a real hero but his type goes mostly unnoticed by the general public. The media puts forth celebrity types and Political types who are not good role models or good representatives for our country and way of life while men like Mattingly go mostly with out mention until they die. He is who we should be promoting to our young people in schools and in the media.

making him one of 24 people to fly to the Moon.

In 1985, Mattingly retired from NASA, then retired from the Navy the following year with the two-star rank of Rear admiral (upper half), and entered the private sector.[20] He worked as a Directorin Grumman's Space Station Support Division. He then headed the Atlas booster program for General Dynamics in San Diego, California. At Lockheed Martin he was Vice President in charge of the X-33 development program. He then worked at Systems Planning and Analysis in Virginia.[21]

Looks like he did very well for himself.

P.S. Astronauts get mad pussy.
