Black supremecists have long lied about how "slaves" were treated. Such as the movie "Roots"......utter bullshit.

These people were treated more humanely and with compassion, than they were treated in their homelands.

They were given housing, food, water, clothing......and many of them were "educated", meaning they learned English, they learned a trade, and many of the men learned to read as well. Some "slave" owners even sent some of the men to colleges in order to learn higher skillsets for building architectual wonders.

These people may have been abducted by their own people and sold around the world as "slaves", but here in the USA, they were treated a hell of a lot better than where they came from.

Slaves were a huge investment and like any investment they were only as good as the managers who oversaw their upkeep.

My ancestor bought one to help run his grist mill and general store. He spent money on getting him a tutor to teach him to read and do sums.

By all accounts his master was away a lot and "Buck" ran the businesses on his own. Of course, he had no legal authority to sign deals and such. His owner's wife had to do all that when her husband was away.

He lived in the back of the store so I doubt he ever went hungry, cold, or was ill-clothed for the era as he was pretty much the face of the business for a very long time.
