Here's the thing, the Dept of Ed's duties will have to be done by someone else, and the Dept has to be ended by Congress not Doge.

But effectively service will be interrupted, but nothing else will change.

Trump is hamstringing the Dept of Education
Firing half the workforce.

The courts will rule the firing was illegal
Trump will ignore the ruling and appeal
The appeal will uphold the ruling and Trump will appeal the ruling to SCOTUS
SCOTUS will say Trump exceeded his authority
Trump will ignore SCOTUS and do nothing.

By the time Trump finally is forced to bring back the workforce……those employees will be long gone

I’m not asking for function. I’m asking for value and questioning their priorities that you want to blame at the local level. The social engineering agenda which is a top priority interferes with the the local mission.

so what does the department of Education DO? I grew up in a semi-rural suburban town----the town did the schools. ---
about five grammar schools---two middle schools and one
high school------funded by property tax. As far as I know there were some federal rules but no feds so much as had anything to say about the curriculum.

I live in a very small Midwest farming town where we have one K-12 school, and judging from the amount that gets taken from my property tax -- MOST of it -- I'm satisfied with how my dollar is being spent. The high school kids are starting a movement against the gender BS and many of them are actually learning some academic material!

State intent, it’s very good value. Financial aid functions for schools can be converted over to an agency with a financial mission. As for helping the disabled, that too is financially related and can be handled by an agency with a finance mission as funds are provided to a school or a district who then locate experts and staff to support the disabled.
