In a Republic, actually
“Perhaps because they have been the most harassed, and they look some of the worst politics of this Trump era, and the agenda of the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025 right in the face, Democratic members of the state legislature took some big risks, including to their own livlihoods, to defend democracy in the face of maga Trump fascism. As the Texas legislature and the worst governor in the United States proposed to redistrict the state in order to cheat out five more Republican seats in the House, Democrats used a last moment procedural move to block the redistricting by simply leaving the state legislature without a quorum. This effectively blocks a vote on the measure and they plan to stay out of the state until the session expires.

This is what resistance looks like.

The risks, to their own livelihood they had to temporarily leave, are real ones, since the Texas legislature does not pay enough of a livable salary for its members to live on. It is deliberately designed to be a rich person's legislature rather than a people's legislature. Some may lose their jobs, some may be severely persecuted because they left their seats. Ultimately, the governor of Texas is powerless to do anything about it, but make life miserable for a while. Well, go ahead and give that a try, since he's not going to get his redrawn districts.

And there is a great example of the in-your-face kind of boldness that is necessary in order to oppose this madness and make an effort to save American democracy.”

The right’s war on democracy continues – in this case Republicans’ efforts to deny citizens the right to elect their own representatives.

If they broke the law, lock them up.

They abdicated and broke the law.

Why don't you get your head out of Obama's backside and get some fresh air.

we saw it, we saw you all looting businesses, firebombing court houses, burning down car dealerships and churches, assaulting people for driving a brand of cars, storming the Department of Tres., attempting to murder congressmen and trump himself, weaponizing offices…it looks a lot like Nazi germany

Oh, BTW: One of those law breaking memebers of the legislature is Jasmine Crockett. That moronic who makes MTG look smart.

The so-called democracy the OP is referring to doesn't exist.

Democrats are the biggest threat to Democracy in this country today. Supporting our Republic means that when you lose an election, the winners get to control the direction of the Country and/or the State.

By running away like the sniveling ******* cowards they are, they are breaking their democracy and depriving people of their representation.

The OP showcases its stupidity.

I would make them pay dearly.

If I lived in their district, I'd be all over them to quit.

I hope they are put on trial and convicted if found guilty.

They have taken money from 3rd parties to flee the state and abdicate their responsibility to the people of Texas. That is bribry and they should be charged with such.

In addition, regardless of the legal outcome, they should be expelled from the Legislature at a minimum.

I think I like the odds for the people on the other side of the football far better.
